  28. ready. We have just finished the version 2.10 for Germany and the Netherlands
  29. and are now working on the english version. I think in January DATAlight will

  46. DATAlight 2 - Online-Compression

  50. DATAlight 2.0 is a TSR-program which automatically compresses all data
  51. while storing and decompresses when loaded again. For the user these mani-
  52. pulations are totally hidden. He will only notice that suddenly 720 KB
  53. disks are suited to 1500 KB and that a 44 MB removable hard disk will
  54. carry more than 90 MB data and programs.
  55. Since DATAlight 2.0 is a compatible BIOS device driver program-conflicts
  56. are nearly impossible, (Incompatibilities with applications are totally
  57. unknown!)

  61. It may sound unimaginable, but DATAlight 2.0 is able to double the
  62. usable amount of data.
  63. With the help of newly introduced options this amount can even be improved
  64. by choosing the most favourable compressing process out of several.
  65. Redundant data which exist in picture archives or data base files can be
  66. compressed more effectively, anyway. This way the resulting capacity may
  67. be ten times higher than the original size.

  71. The other decisive factor is speed. It may surprise but when loading da-
  72. ta (even when starting a program) DATAlight 2.0 is often quicker than the
  73. operating system without DATAlight 2.0. Finally, less data have to be read
  74. and the complete DATAlight 2.0 code is written in assembler.
  75. However, conditioned by its pricinple, the compressing process is intensi-
  76. ve in CPU-time. But further optimized compressing codes and, above all, a
  77. new data structure have solved this problem.
  78. The writing speed when using the automatic compressing has been increased
  79. drastically.
  80. By means of additional options, the user has the possibility to decide him-
  81. self how much CPU-time should be spent on the compressing process.
  82. And an optimum space saving compressing process can subsequently be star-
  83. ted for several partitions at the same time.

  87. DATAlight 2.0 is an AUTO-folder program which is set-up by the com-
  88. fortable GEM user interface. As soon as DATAlight 2.0 is installed in the
  89. computer, it is able to work with compressed as well as with standard me-
  90. dia.
  91. The co-operation of DATAlight 2.0 with other programs can be arranged by a
  92. number of options. Limits which have been fixed before can now be adjusted
  93. in a more flexible way and are pre-situated in an approved standard set-
  94. ting.

  103. DATAlight 2.0 supports all ST/STE/TT computers, all TOS-versions, any me-
  104. mory configuration, all resolutions, all disks (incl. HD) as well as all re-

  106. tible device drivers (AHDI 3.0 or higher).
