- I bought my ADSpeed ST from Toad for about $200.00 a couple of months
- ago. I haven't had any problems other than a few programs not being
- able to run at 16 MHz. I've got the jumpers set so my ST boots up at 8
- MHz so all my old game disks will still work. The software they supply
- lets you change speeds without re-booting. There are several methods
- you can use to change speeds: stand alone programs (for use in your
- AUTO folder or via a program launcher like HotWire), assigning a hot
- key, via a desk accessory, or via an optional hardware switch. I like
- it when a company lets you choose your own preferred method of
- operation, rather than forcing one upon you.
-
- Installation involves de-soldering your existing CPU and soldering in a
- socket for the daughterboard. You also have to solder in a jumper wire
- if you have a Mega ST. The daughterboard even has circuitry that
- duplicates the functionality of the existing Mega daughterboard. Then
- it's just plug 'n' play. It took me about an hour.
-
- I bought mine so the MIDI buffer in X-oR wouldn't overflow when
- processsing a large System Exclusive dump (the data processing routines
- just couldn't keep up at 8 MHz). It can now keep up most of the time
- (unless I have Warp 9 installed, which seems to move the MIDI interrupts
- to a lower priority).
