  20. Well, maybe its not 'tar' which is causing Brian's problem ...
  21. It maybe the operating system which doesnt allow him to create files
  22. he doesnt own. (Quite likely, I'd say ..)

  24. The solution : yes there probably is a flag you 'dont know about'.
  25. It would be one which makes all files , that you untar, yours.

  27. IE: it wont try to untar files as somebody elses,
  28.     it untar's the files with you as owner. 
  29. go find out which flag that is !
