- I am trying to get a 52 mb Quantum drive partitioned to work with my IIgs with
- high speed SCSI card. I already have a 30 mb Seagate drive hooked up. The
- Quantum is connected to the card, and the Seagate to the Quantum. I was able
- to get GS/OS to recognize the drive only by formatting the entire drive as an
- HFS folume. When I did this, all sorts of mayhem occurred when I tried to put
- files on it, such as "generic FST error"s and having the finder lock up or
- crash into the monitor. I then tried to partition it with ADU, Chinook SCSI
- utilities, and the high speed SCSI card utilities. I kept getting brain dead
- partitions, eg with the bit maps located at the end of the volumes, and
- not being able to be fixed with a block editor because the write failed.
- The drive's partitions always cause the finder to choke and I get i/o errors
- when I catalog under ProDOS. Copying files to them causes the volumes to be
- trashed. Each utility's verify function finds no bad blocks on the drive,
- and the Seagate drive functions perfectly when chained to the drive. The
- guy who sold it says my software can't handle Quantum drives, and I need to
- try it on a Mac. I'm starting to think the drive is toast. Any ideas? Kindly
- reply rather than following up as I want to get it going ASAP.
