- Unfortunately, the hard drive manufacturer is Applied Ingenuity which
- has been out of business for some time now.

- I've tried booting off a 5.0.4 floppy and running my system from there for
- a while, with no problems whatsoever. Also, back before the release of
- System 6 I *never* had these problems, and I haven't gotten any new hardware
- since then. However, if you think it would be worthwhile I will install
- 5.0.4 on my hard drive and run it for a couple of days.
-
- Here, why don't I post a complete description of my problem. Maybe that
- will help you diagnose it.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Ever since I've gotten System 6 I've had random crashes and disk
- corruptions, especially (but not only) in the Finder. Usually the
- crashes involve "unable to load resource" or "GS/OS system" errors, and
- the disk corruptions usually happen as file names where one of the
- characters gets its high bit set, or the files simply won't validate
- in the Finder. Sometimes the crashes happen regularly (every few
- minutes of using the Finder) and other times the system is fine for a
- while and I think it has fixed itself until....
-
- First off, my system consists of:
- - Applied Ingenuity 40 megabyte InnerDrive internal hard disk,
- partitioned into 2 ProDOS partitions
- - 4 megabytes of memory on an AI GS Juice + card (2 megs purchased
- with the card, 2 later from Quality Computers)
- - ZipGS as shipped from Zip Technologies, 8 MHz and 16K cache
- - Applied Engineering 2400 baud DataLink internal modem
- - 2 Apple 3.5" floppy disk drives
- - ImageWriter II printer
- - CH Products Mach III joystick
- - System 6
-
- I've tried everything I can think of to try to narrow down the problem
- but so far I haven't been successful. Things I've tried are: removing
- all nonstandard system extensions (NDAs, Inits, etc.), turning my ZipGS
- off, running a memory checker, and booting off a fresh System 6 floppy
- instead of my hard drive. So far the only thing that has worked is
- booting off a System *5.0.4* floppy (haven't tried reinstalling 5.0.4 on
- my hard drive but I think that would work too.)
-
- My memory checks out OK. I'm wondering if the problem is a conflict
- with the hard disk. I've tried running the AI memory checker and AI
- hard-disk partitioning software under System 6 and both crash,
- although they work fine under System 5.0.4. Has anyone else had
- problems with InnerDrives under System 6? Has anyone had no
- problems?
-
- Any ideas, anyone? This is a very annoying problem and I'd really
- like to get it solved. If anyone else has similar problems please
- post your system setup. Thanks!
