- In a previous article, irsman@iastate.edu (That Ian Guy) passes on w/o
- editorialisation:
-
- >The following is from Ernie, the guy who did the taping and commenting in the
- >original Project Apple Storm posting. It's been lifted unedited from OggNET.
- >Enjoy, or something...this says disturbing things to me about some A2'ers...
-
- What disturbing things? I find it predictable (and might even have said
- that without the benefit of hindsight).
-
- Releasing the transcript was _probably_ legal, as far as I know. The law differs
- from country to country (and state to state, I imagine), but you can tape and
- release a conversation with the permission of at least one member, in
- these parts. Note that this precludes wiretapping or the hiding of recorders
- by a third party. Also, it is morally questionable for Apple to whine
- about the release: the representatives in the transcript appeared to be
- acting in a specific capacity; were their comments only for the ears of
- the "elite" attending the meeting?
-
- Where I think the taper/releaser requires some chewing out is in the
- matter of the "editorial comments". Given that releasing the material was
- at least marginal, he might have had the good sense to simply let the
- transcript speak for itself. Apple's actions in the past have been
- irritating, but the actions of "Apple IIers" who spread what is
- essentially propaganda are more so. Moore's reference to himself as
- "this reporter" is particularly ironic given his obvious lack of
- objectivity. The comments were out of line, and in fact demeaning to the
- group of people whose rights Moore ostensibly wants to "protect".
-
- >Note, I (Ian Schmidt) don't necessarily endorse or condemn the opinions
- >in the above text, I am simply providing it for your information. Please
- >don't flame me :-)
-
- I ain't gonna flame ya...I ain't gonna flame ya...isn't this a John
- Wayne quote? B-)
