  27. No, it is possible. Modern modems support it. In the case of FAX or data,
  28. they issue several RINGs very close to each other, this is recognized
  29. by the program, which in turn "switches on" the modem part of the modem.
  30. If it's voice, th RINGs come at a normal pace, you now have the option
  31. to go into your voice mailbox (if your modem supports that) or answer the
  32. phone manually/with your answering machine.
  33. Of course, the exact method of distinguishing voice/data/FAX differs with
  34. modem brand, but all the better modems can do it, and they allow you
  35. to set up a voice mailbox with them, too.
