- Porting such software to SunOS 4.x is trivial. Porting such software
- to an HP is highly non-trivial. Among other things, the person doing
- the port has to know that the HP-supplied mmap() is not officially
- supported and is broken and so one shouldn't use it even though the
- interface is there. There are a large number of other issues. Much
- of the X11 stuff is downright hard to port because HP doesn't supply
- all of the standard X11 libraries (e.g. Xaw, Xmu, Xdmcp are NOT
- officially supplied by HP or supported by HP, at least in the US).

- Buy Sun and tell the HP sales rep that HP needs to start shipping a
- full set of X11 libraries and a more complete set of system software
- and stop the de facto policy of selling minimal UNIX (HPUX).
-
- Locally, we call HPUX "Caffeine-free diet UNIX" because it is UNIX
- with very few added features compared with Sun's or SGI's standard
- included-with-the-hardware UNIX operating system.
-
- The unofficial support from the HP technical guys doing the real
- work is great. I don't have official HP support (instead we have some
- weird arrangement because I buy off of a USN workstation contract), so
- I can't comment directly on that.
