- Please don't misunderstand our position. We don't wish to keep all
- hardware info private. It's perfectly legal to use the parallel port hardware
- directly, so long as you obtain the associated cia resources properly, the
- the current hardware RKM documents the CIA's.
-
- There is some information, mostly having to do with the AGA changes,
- that we do not want to condone direct use of currently. It's not an all-or-
- nothing stance - we've posted on how to safely use the blitter hardware
- directly. We however know a lot more about future plans than anyone else,
- and know what things we don't want people to do in large numbers of commercial
- products. Undoubtably some will do them anyways, with or without docs.
- However, if the number of games/applications breaking the rules is kept
- managable, we will have a chance to move forward rapidly on the hardware front.
- Without this, improvements will be painful, and hard to win market acceptance
- for (hardware without working applications/games/etc is a hard sell,
- especially for potential upgraders who have an investment in existing
- software).
-
- I still have games I bought in 1986(?) that I play a many times a year
- (Shanghai, for example). They still work, and are still fun, because they're
- good games.
