- Hmmm, hmmm, someone must have done a bad job: Just also this weekend
- I entered a warehouse here and recognized they had also a CD-I. I was
- curious, because I never had seen one in reality before. A young sales
- person was playing a bit with it, lonely, I formed the only "crowd"
- around him (but I already do for quite a number of normal people :-).
- Anyway, I asked him about the thing and also told him I already had
- a CDTV, but someone had stated that CD-I were better. He said yes,
- only look at this "Smithsonian" disc. He started it (before he was
- playing "Defender of the Crown", never knew it was ported there),
- and I just saw the normal GUI of such a remote-driven application.
- Not any difference to CDTV. Then he proceeded a bit and showed me some
- of the pictures: they looked really BAD! I was surprised, as I had read
- so much about the capabilities of that hardware thanks to Kevin, but
- this looked not at all sharp or brilliant, just wishy-washy (sp?). And
- it was clearly not the fault of the monitor/TV, because the GUI elements
- were much sharper.
-
- There are three possibilities: 1. That sales guy just had no talent to
- show the thing off; 2. this app does not use CD-I's video capabilities
- to their fullest or the guy just showed me the poor exceptions; or
- 3. the hype about CD-I video capabilities is exaggerated. Case yet
- undecided.
