-
- Many thanks fo splendid advice on this data transfer, the conclusion is that
- the best (and quite possibly only) method is to convert via PC format using the
- MAC's packaged file converter and a PD Amiga PC-format disk reader. The following
- is all the mail received on the subject:

- I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it is physically impossible for a
- standard double density amiga drive to read a mac disk. You see, a mac drive
- speeds up it's rotation as the head goes towards the outside of the floppy.
- Amiga and IBM drives maintain a steady speed. So IBM format would be your best
- bet as both Mac and Amiga have utilities for reading it.
-
- Of course, I doubt that Mac would ever allow a program to be written that
- would let a mac read an amiga floppy, as mac cannot afford to let anyone know
- that they know or care about the existence of the amiga.. You see, the two
- guys most responsible for the look of AmigaDOS 1.0 quit and then designed
- Mac System 1's look (the two are for all practical purposes identical in
- appearance. And the amiga look was copyrighted by Commodore first..;)

- Your best bet may be to transfer via IBM disks. I know of no way to read a
- MAC disk on an Amiga without buying a MAC disk drive. There is software to
- read/write IBM 720K disks on both systems. The Amiga has Cross-DOS (included
- with WB 2.1) MSH (Messy File System; PD on Fred Fish), as well as a couple
- of others.

- Hi Alex
-
- I would advise you to use MS-DOS format as the xfer format. There
- is a utility for the Mac that reads/writes MS-DOS disks - I think
- it comes with the installation package. On the Amiga you can use
- one of the PD or commercial utilities for dealing with MS-DOS
- disks (720 kB). I personally recommend MultiDOS from one of the
- Fish disks.
-
- Good luck!
