- Yes. Layers.library is significantly faster (so much so that it makes you
- wonder what they were doing wrong before) as are disk operations, plus it
- takes a lot less memory than running 2.04, NickPrefs, BellPrefs, etcetera,
- etcetera, ad nauseum.

-
- It certainly will - after the release of the new machines with 3.0, I got
- a demo of it on a developer friend's machine (An A3000). It works fine,
- and my expectation is that A500 owners will want to upgrade from 2.04 for
- the speedups. The problem is that CBM hasn't released it yet (which is
- extremely frustrating and annoying, since it's already out on AGA systems -
- my only guesses as to why they haven't released it yet to the rest of us
- (or at least those who don't happen to have AGA systems with kickfiles to
- copy ;) ): 1) They don't want it to get out that not all of the AGA speedups
- are in hardware (An 8 color screen in 3 seems to move windows faster than a
- 4 color (2 bitplane) screen under 2), and 2) They aren't quite through with
- it yet and want to wait until 3.1 is complete before releasing it. Either
- way, it's very annoying to those of us who want to start using and especially
- coding 3. They'll probably pull the same fiasco with the RKMs they did with
- 2.04 and we'll all spend months trying to get the new ones and all the same
- hassle they put us through before.
