- I've run into this problem as well, but my 'solution' qualifies more as a
- 'work-around'. I run a bbs and run into the 'crash while saving' quite often.
-
- I simply rename the corrupted file into a 'dead_space' directory. This works
- even though trying to delete, re-write,or read the file will crash my system.
- Then, when the HD complains about validation, I simply wait the 15 minutes
- (or so) the HD needs to sort itself out. After that it works fine.
-
- In this way, I can feel safe that the 'bad' sectors will not be re-used and
- also avoid clearing off starting over with a new format. (as least not as
- often.) If there is a program which will politely handle marking blocks as
- unreadable, or kill the file without messing around with the disk too much,
- I'd like to hear of it.
