- Thermal shock is one thing that can cause problems. Without going into
- details (darned convenient, since I don't KNOW all the details), taking
- an icy machine and warming it up relatively fast can cause circuits to
- fail, solder joints to crack, and so on.

- The practical aspect of all this is that your machine will work more
- reliably if you leave it on all the time (maintaining a more or less
- stable environment). I've seen this work in practice for a radio shack
- I used to manage (the rhubarb that erupted from a cold start was pretty
- darned harrying). On a more on-topic example, my 2500 has run continuously
- for over 2 years now and has had NO hardware failures, period. Your
- mileage may vary, of course, but the empirical evidence is pretty convincing.
