- Dear fellow netters,
-
- I have a little problem with my hard drive. Ive been using amiga's
- since they first came out, and I was one of the first kids on the block
- to get a HD on my A1000 (It was a C.LTD i think) anyway, Im used to
- trashing around with hard drives on amigas. However, I can't seem to
- figure this one out, maybe someone out there can help me out. I have an
- A2000, w/ GVP Impact Series II 030 combo board (40 Mhz), 1 Q80 (quantum 80
- meg HD), and 1 LPS120 (Quantum 120 Meg HD), both SCSI, 80 meg is unit 0,
- and 120 is unit 1, my 80 meg works FINE, no problems with it at all. My
- LPS120 has developed a neat little problem. This drive is no more than 8
- months old, and all of the sudden Its comming up with Not-Validated
- errors. I get a requester that WILL NOT go away that says its not
- validated, and the information in the "INFO" commands show the drive as
- 100% full and NOT-Validated. I was running UUCP (UUXQT) and decided to
- fire up another process. Well, when I do this the process I ran crashed
- the machine, I got an "Unexpected error" from the GVP Controler, then it
- said my 80 Meg had a read/write error, and my machine locked up, well of
- course I locked up right in the middle of writing to the HD, so I expected
- there to be some trouble with the drive, and It seems that either UUXQT,
- or gvpscsi.device is a problem with doing too many things at once, because
- my 80 meg is free of errors, I even checked this after the fact (using GVP
- FAAASTPrep to map out bad blocks), no errors. Now, my problem is this:
- I cant get my LPS120 to work. If I reformat, everything seems to work
- fine, but at DIFFERENT times while Im copying data onto the drve , I get
- one of those unexpected error messages, and a write error on my lps120,
- and then a lock-up. If I re-boot I get the same non-validated error on
- that drive. I have tried mapping out the bad blocks, says there is non.
- I have tried partitioning the drive into 2, 3 and 4 parts, but still have
- the same problem. Is there a utility that is in the P.D. or that I can
- buy that will work this out for me, is there some magic I am missing here?
- WHen I re-low-level format it, it only takes 1/2 second (when I first got
- the drive it took several minutes to low-level format the thing). So is
- there a way to force a low-level format, other than hooking it up to
- another platform to low-level format it? (for some reason I think that
- might work, don't ask me why, but I dont have access to any other platform
- right now) HELP!!!! I want my NEWS again!! Do I need to get a new
- drive? PLEASE tell me not! Thanks for any help!, PLEASE E-MAIL if at all
- possible. If you can't reach me at the from address, try:
-
- kbethke@cscns.com
- or kbethke@ocnet.cscns.com
-
- but sbathkey@digex.com should work fine.
