  12. I too have been having many problems with the A1200 IDE interface.  I
  13. work at an Amiga dealership on the University of Toronto (Ontario,
  14. Canada) and we have had two A1200 come into stock so far.  I purchased
  15. Quantum 80MB Go-Drives to install into the machines.  I experienced the
  16. exact same problems as Mr. Andy Colebourne stated in his message of Dec.
  17. 14, namely large files become corrupt.  Commodore Canada tech. support
  18. came up with some storey about ADOS 3.0 having a bug which corrupts
  19. files which are greater than 1/2 the available RAM.  This does not match
  20. the testing I have done.

  22. The only way I have been able to get the IDE drive working properly is
  23. to NOT use the Fast File System...these seems to be reliable with the
  24. amount of testing I have been able to do.

  26. The really bad news is that BOTH our A1200 have serious problems after
  27. the hard drive has been installed and running.  After awhile (from 5
  28. minutes to 1 day so far) the 1200 will do something really weird to the
  29. hard drive and the system will refuse to boot!  The power LED flashes,
  30. the system resets, and the whole thing happens again and again.

  32. This time, according to Commodore tech. support, a bunch of A1200 CPU's
  33. went out the door with poor soldering jobs.  The serial numbers on these
  34. system with 888 and 889 so I can sort of understand this (sort of...)

  36. I definately don't want to start any bad Q.C. rumors here.  The A1200
  37. appears to be an excellent machine and the performance on the system
  38. with the Quantum Go-Drive appeared to be excellent before these failures
  39. began to crop up.

  41. By the way...I experienced the exact same problems on our store demos
  42. A4000 when I tried to add a second (Maxtor) hard drive.  Large files
  43. would become corrupt.  I gave up on trying to installed this drive after
  44. 2 days of fiddling.  I think there are some problems with the V39 Fast
  45. File System...
