- | A while back I picked up a no-warranties 3b1 expansion box. I
- | finally got around to setting it up, and sure enough, it doesn't
- | work. The 3b1 gets a fine hatching on the screen with the box
- | attached, and fails to boot. When the box is attached but
- | powered down, there is no hatching, but the the machine hangs
- | while loading the boot disk. (The usual sequence is box on
- | before 3b1, but I thought I'd try booting with the box attached
- | but powered down.)

- The power to the expansion box MUST be on before the 3B1 or 7300 is
- powered up; with the exp. box power off, the bus(es) is(are) improperly
- loaded/terminated.
-
- Now, my "main" 3B1 exhibits the same problem and always has since day 1
- with the expansion box; plugging the box's card into any of my 7300 systems
- and no problem whatsoever.
-
- What works for me is to simply press the RESET button at the back of the
- computer after the cross-hatching upon power up; system then comes up fine
- and runs for 6 months until I shut it down again for cleaning. Because it
- hasn't been a "problem" (for me), I never bothered to determine WHY it causes
- the cross-hatching only on the one system (and ONLY on a 3B1).
-
- Several people in the local users' group have made the same comments and
- observations, and pressing the RESET works for them, too.
-
- Quien sabe?
