- So redefine the NNTP standard to support full 8 bit paths, but include
- in the negotations some information about what version you are supporting.

- 7 talks to 7 or 8 talks to 8, no change. 8 talks to 7 or vice versa,
- the newer one does some mapping, adding a map header if encoding downwards
- and removing/altering one if encoding upwards.

- This means people on 7 bit systems who see articles that contained 8
- bits will see them as encoding sequences. There will be a few problems
- with included text from such sites if the included text contains encoded
- characters.

- The other primary transmission mode, uucp, already is 8 bits clean.
