  14. They use Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana, and other characters found in JIS
  15. X 0208, JIS X 0201 and ASCII.  Romaji is rare, except in message
  16. headers. :-)

  18. The characters take up either one or two bytes each.  The 8th bit is
  19. not used.  Escape sequences are used to delimit parts in different
  20. character sets.
