  10. Does anybody know the physical significance of Mel Based coefficients?
  11. Here is what I understand and what I don't.

  13. 1) We start computing the energy in bands. Under 1KHz the bands are  
  14. linearly spaced and beyond 1KHZ they are logarithmically spaced (because  
  15. there is less energy in the higher frequency bands and the human hear  
  16. frequency resolution is as such...)
  17. 2) We use triangle filters (probably for smoothing reasons...)
  18. 3) Then there is a cosine/linear combination type of transform. I do not  
  19. understand the physical significance of it but I observed that my  
  20. recognizer works better! What does it mean?
