- Does anybody know the physical significance of Mel Based coefficients?
- Here is what I understand and what I don't.
-
- 1) We start computing the energy in bands. Under 1KHz the bands are
- linearly spaced and beyond 1KHZ they are logarithmically spaced (because
- there is less energy in the higher frequency bands and the human hear
- frequency resolution is as such...)
- 2) We use triangle filters (probably for smoothing reasons...)
- 3) Then there is a cosine/linear combination type of transform. I do not
- understand the physical significance of it but I observed that my
- recognizer works better! What does it mean?
-
- Thanks in advance for your explanations...
