- I won't speak for the other Mike, but you're confusing the SEI's goal
- with the intentions of the Real World [tm]. Yes, it's the SEI's charter
- to promote and disseminate technology and methods for better software
- engineering, and it's anathema to the academics that the CMM would
- be used for such purposes as bidder selection.

- The predecessor to the CMM has indeed been used for that very purpose.
- Unless the CMM undergoes a change that makes it impossible (or at least
- impractical) to use it for commercial purposes, expect it to experience
- the same fate. The marketplace is desparate and will use whatever is
- available if it offers some hope for improvement.
