- assessments and evaluations provide "grades", but the purpose of
- the CMM is to provide a framework for process improvement.

- first. The purpose of the SEI and the CMM is clearly stated on pages
- vii and viii of the CMM (CMU/SEI-91-TR-24). To quote from page viii:
- "The SEI's goal ... is to encourage software organizations to focus on
- the CMM rather than on the maturity questionnaire [grade]."
