  13. A friend of my is a programmer who uses Unisys' CTOS OS.  He
  14. is interested in writing a security program that people can
  15. use to encrypt sensitive (but not classified) files.

  17. He would like to use DES encryption, but needs to get more
  18. information about it.  Is the algorithm for DES in the public
  19. domain, or do you need a license to use it in a piece of 
  20. software?  Where can my friend obtain the actual specification
  21. for DES ?  Is it available on the internet?
