- So for those of you, like me, whose mechanical aptitude stops when it
- comes to precision machining, here is an idea to get your Miniboard on
- the move. Radio Shack sells a "Sherman" tank during christmas that
- is ideal for a small portable base. It has :
- a) Built in battery compartment with 9v and 4.5v outputs.
- b) two motors, with gearing, driving tracks.
- c) four convienient mounting posts that allow you to mount
- a perfboard on top.
-
- When you remove the turret/top (four screws) it leaves a pretty usable
- base. I've modified them by cutting off the pedestal the on/off switch
- sits on to give me an "aircraft carrier" look when the proto board is
- mounted on top of the posts. If you are careful you can even salvage the
- motor drivers and the RF link but with the Miniboard that isn't necessary.
-
- If you then cut of the "RJ11" portion of the miniboard it fits in the front
- where the remote control was. You connect the motors to the motor drivers
- on the miniboard, and the 9V to the miniboard and off you go.
-
- The best deal is to buy these things after christmas when radio shack is
- clearing them out.
