- This depends largely upon the quality of the NDIS driver being replaced
- and that of the corresponding ODI driver it's being replaced with. I've
- seen one instance where replacing an NDIS driver for an NE2000 with the ODI
- driver for the same board and ODINSUP helped PC-NFS v4.0 perform noticeably
- better... and it saved memory at the same time (although I understand that
- on average the use of ODINSUP incurs an additional 4900 bytes of RAM).
-
- On performance in general, I'll quote the ODINSUP.DOC file found in the
- aforementioned DOSUP6.ZIP:
-
- Limited performance comparisons were made using the 3Com EtherLink
- II adapter. A performance comparison using the native NDIS
- ELNKII.DOS MAC Driver and the ODI 3C503.COM and ODINSUP.COM was
- performed. It was found that both setup's provided the same
- performance results, i.e. use of the ODINSUP module incurred no
- performance penalty. Use of other LAN Drivers may show different
- results.
-
- The document also goes on to describe how certain types of protocol
- behavior may effect this... Good reading for those interested.
