  12. We are designing a VSAT WAN based on TCP/IP and need to improve throughput.
  13. Because much data is shared amoung many sites, multi-casting is potentially
  14. more efficient than N uni-casts.  For example, we need to disseminate a
  15. multimedia hypercard stack to all PBS member stations, but uni-casting takes
  16. too long over a relatively slow VSAT connection.

  18. In RFC-1112 Deering describes extensions for IP multi-casting, limiting
  19. the discussion to the IP layer.  Upper-level protocols are implied, but
  20. not discussed.
