- Greetings:
-
- We are designing a VSAT WAN based on TCP/IP and need to improve throughput.
- Because much data is shared amoung many sites, multi-casting is potentially
- more efficient than N uni-casts. For example, we need to disseminate a
- multimedia hypercard stack to all PBS member stations, but uni-casting takes
- too long over a relatively slow VSAT connection.
-
- In RFC-1112 Deering describes extensions for IP multi-casting, limiting
- the discussion to the IP layer. Upper-level protocols are implied, but
- not discussed.
-
- Please email suggestions and references to relevant literature about
- data broadcasting protocols to jkidwell@pbs.org.
