- The best book I've dealt with recently is "UNIX Network Programming" by
- Stevens. According to him, layers 5 thru 7 are left to the user process.

- Also, as I understand it, dial-up sessions (like SLIP) should probably be
- classified as a OSI-Layer-3 or Network-layer protocol.
