  23. In the old days Apple created a network system for Macs and they called
  24. it AppleTalk.  This covered the protocols suite and the hardware it
  25. ran on.

  27. As time went by, AppleTalk (the protocol suite) added other transport
  28. media like Ethernet and Token Ring.  To clarify matters Apple renamed
  29. the hardware LocalTalk and kept the name AppleTalk for the protocols.

  31. So today you have AppleTalk the protocol suite running on top of a
  32. variety of hardware media:

  34.     LocalTalk - the standard plug built into every Mac ever made.
  35.     EtherTalk - ethernet
  36.     TokenTalk - token ring

  38. So the PC people are talking about adding "an AppleTalk port" are
  39. talking about adding a LocalTalk port.
