- Does anyone out there know how to force an AppleTalk (LocalTalk) device to
- assume a specific node number? I have a QMS Colorscript 210
- printer that has a LocalTalk interface. Somehow the printer
- has chosen an illegal AppleTalk node number for itself (51).
- According the the AppleTalk specs, node numbers in the range of
- 1-127 are used to identify client nodes (which a Laser Printer is
- not). Node numbers in the range of 128-254 are reserved for
- server nodes (which a LaserPrinter is). Since my printer has
- taken the number 51 for itself, it has an illegal address.
-
- We have a Cisco EtherTalk router that refuses to route the NBP for
- this printer. When EtherTalk users on the side of the router opposite
- of the printer activate their choosers, they do not see it. All users
- on the printer side of the Cisco, however, see the printer just fine.
- I also have an Apple LaserWriter that is daisy-chained with the
- QMS. It has a legitimate AppleTalk node number (165) and all users
- can see it just fine. Apparently our Cisco will not allow the illegal
- address.
-
- Merely turning off and on the printer has no effect since the printer
- will continue to use the same address unless some other device on
- the net grabs it first. Are there any utilities available which
- will allow me to set an AppleTalk address manually?
-
- Thanks in advance!
