- #Hello!
- #
- #Every now and then there are som "bursts" on our ethernet.
- #The SUN workstations don't give a s*it, but the VAXstations keep shouting
- #to each other quite a lot and eventually reboot.
-
- Ok, so you know that you have a problem on your network.
- Now the right thing to do would be to fix it, not to mess
- up your cluster so it ignores your hosed network, right?
-
- #The value for RECNXINTERVAL is 120 in our cluster. How far up could
- #I crank it, i.e. what impact could it have on the MI-cluster?
- #Any other "time-out"-parameters that are worth checking out?
-
- You can crank it up to 32767 seconds. However, keep in
- mind that this and other timers (QDSKINTERVAL, PRCPOLINTERVAL,
- PASTIMOUT,PAPOLLINTERVAL) all are there for a reason. Their
- function is to maintain cluster communication. In the event
- of a cluster configuratin change it is these sanity timers
- which let other nodes find out about it.
-
- Personally I would recommend finding out the source of
- your network storms (but then you mentioned Suns, so we
- already know that ;-) but if you have to raise timers
- don't do it much beyond a minute or you will siiiiit
- theeerrreee wondering whhhaaat iiisss happpennnniiinnnggg
- when real things occur.
-
- #As I'm not responsible for our network I won't go into that (waiting for
- #the move towards routing within the net), but I'd really appreciate any
- #ideas concerning the VAXes. Thanx!
-
- If you use clusters, and have the spare equipment or cash,
- just put them on a separate ETHERNET segment bridged to the rest.
