  14.    In my graduate work I have proposed an approach called "Protocol-level
  15.    Profiling" (PLP) for characterizing client-server interaction. The basic
  16.    idea behind PLP is to checkpoint the interaction between the client and the
  17.    server and then estimate the computation invoked on the server by carefully
  18.    assigning a cost to each of the messages on the basis of its attributes.

  20.    I have written a profiler, Xprof, which is a protocol-level profiler
  21.    for X Window applications. It is available by anonymous ftp from
  22.    roundup.crhc.uiuc.edu (128.174.197.134)
