- PATHWORKS for OS/2 is a big problem. Version 2.0B has just been
- released that allows you to get the client version working provided
- you already have Lan Server 2.0. This is an unsatisfactory situation
- that is basically caused by the rift between Microsoft and IBM. As
- long as Lan Manager does not fully support OS/2 2.0 PATHWORKS will not
- either. Since DEC is *very* pally with Microsoft these days it seems
- unlikely there will be proper support from DEC for OS/2 in the near
- future.
-
- As for working with TCP/IP you have two choices: use DEC's own TCP/IP
- extensions (3COM code they bought and which is hopeless) or get it
- working with IBM's or some other NDIS-based IP suite. The latter should
- not be too difficult.
-
- If there is an investment in DEC equipment and protocols at the site
- I hate to say it but you should also be looking at what Windows NT
- will be offering (but then again, that is at least 6 months off...).
