- Hi,
-
- My OS/2 box is acting very very strange. Here is the history of what
- happend:
-
- - Run OS/2 since half a year w/o problems. Installed OS/2 GA, TCP/IP 1.2.1
- and the CSD 6055 and the TCP/IP 1.2.1 CSD 2274, NFS CSD and PMX CSD.
- Everything worked flawlessly.
-
- - two days ago, I got a message like "INET.SYS doesn't contain a valid
- device driver -- the line xx in CONFIG.SYS is ignored" when booting
- the machine.
-
- - o.k. I thought: something destroyed the INET.SYS -> go and replace it.
-
- - since then I tried *EVERYTHING* to get a working INET.SYS again
- *WITHOUT* success.
-
- PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
-
- - I do a "COPY INET.BCK INET.SYS" (after uncommenting INET.SYS in the
- CONFIG.SYS because its locked -- I thought only EXEs and DLLs are locked
- and not SYS drivers).
-
- - I do a "COMP INET.BCK INET.SYS" and guess what:
-
- **** THEY ARE DIFFERENT. ****
-
- - I do repeated "COMP INET.BCK INET.SYS" and I get sometimes no errors
- and somtimes differences of 00 <> FF at different locations (always
- around 500-600h).
-
- - O.K, I thought -> BAD SECTOR on the DISK -> REFORMAT and REINSTALL
- everything
-
- - reinstalled GA, reinstalled the CSD 6055, reinstalled TCP/IP 1.2.1 + NFS
- + PMX. -> NO PROBLEMS. Everything O.K.
-
- - reinstalled the TCP/IP 1.2.1 CSDs (2274 + NFS + PMX CSDs), reconfigured
- the NFS and things -->>>
-
- - after the next bootup -> same problem again. "INET.SYS does not contain
- a valid ......."
-
- - I try: COPY \TCPIP\BIN\INET.SYS \IBMCOM\PROTOCOL\INET.SYS followed by a
- COMP \TCPIP\BIN\INET.SYS \IBMCOM\PROTOCOL\INET.SYS.
-
- THE FILES ARE DIFFERENT AGAIN !!!
-
- --->>> something very peculiar must be going on here. Repeated comparisons
- between two equal files yield different results.
-
- THIS ONLY HAPPES WITH THE INET.SYS FILE FROM THE CSD2274 OF TCP/IP 1.2.1!!!
- Other files are not affected.
-
- ---- I'm stuck now. I just don't know what to do next. I really urgently
- got this machine up for programming but wasted already two days figuring
- out what is wrong.
-
- Anyone out there with any ideas what's going on ?
-
- Here's the hardware: 486/50 Clone
- 550 MB IDE Disk partitioned
- C: 20MB FAT
- D: 450 MB FAT (I know I know ..)
- E: 80MB HPFS for OS/2
- BootManager
- ET4000 Card
- SMC Ethercard Plus Ethernet card
-
- The IDE Disk has 1054 cylinders and the bootmanager is on the last
- cylinders. This works without problems.
-
- Please anyone with any idea --> send me an e-mail -> if I find a solution
- I'll post a summary to the net.
-
- Thanks -- Tom Leitner, Graz, Austria
