- I beleive you are talking about the "general card" drivers for win and os/2.
- These drivers use the VESA standard mode set call number for 800x600x16
- (6a isn't it ?). These drivers take advantage of the fact that no bank
- switching is required to access the mode (the entire video memory fits into
- 64kb). For higher resolutions, no such drivers are possible.

- On a side note, IBM did include a VGA standard section to allow access to
- more than 64 kb video memory, and thus would have solved many of the driver
- problems we see today. It was ingnored by clone makers, and thus was never
- used, proving, I guess, that not all problems can be blamed on IBM :)
