- Hi, I recently posted a survey of regarding whether or not the press was biased
- towards OS/2.
-
- Sorry I didn't do all this in .advocacy or something, but I needed responses
- from OS/2 users, and not users of alternatives such as Windows.
-
- And, Thank you very much to all those responding.
-
- Many of you asked to see the results posted; here they are:
-
- Most of those responding felt that the press does treat OS/2 fairly, with
- 76 percent answering yes. 24 percent asnwered no.
-
- For the reasons why the press was unfair, the number one reason was that the
- press is used to Windows and a Windows-based world, and do not want to see
- anything different. Respondents felt that reviewers do not spend enough time
- with OS/2 to get used to it, criticize it because it doesn't work the way
- Windows works, and do not know much about OS/2 and don't intend to learn much
- about OS/2.
-
- Another major reason cited was that the press tends to focus on minor problems
- with OS/2 and then portray as much larger problems.
-
- Another major reason was that the press glorifies Windows, and therefore must
- put down its alternatives, because of Microsoft's extensive advertising in
- the publications.
-
- Those who did not think the press unfairly criticized OS/2 generally said that
- OS/2 is not for everyone, and that the press is just making that clear by
- pointing out the problems with OS/2 that they think could be serious problems
- for general users. They said that the press does this truthfully.
-
-
-
- Sorry for not posting this earlier, but I have had a lot of work to do with
- finals (including the paper I needed to do this survey for).
