- Well.. IBM in BOCA-RATON has several active news/e-mail feeds, and
- they do watch this and other OS2 related areas here on the net..
- And.. I've gotten mail from them on occasion with internet reply addresses..
- So there is NO technical reason to not allow bug reports from internet
- directly that I have been able to see...
-
- I have asked them repeatedly why they are focusing on Compu$erve only, and not
- allowing internet to run in parallel, and never got an answer..
-
- It seemed to me to be in their interest to win over the hearts and minds of
- both the people in industry here on the net, as well as the students and
- teachers found here also. (This is the route Apple took many years ago, and
- helped firmly root their acceptance in the office environment. There are many
- current and future developers here!)
-
- In looking at the Microsoft developer area, they too are exclusively on
- Compu$erve..
-
- I have a hunch that it is to IBM's and Microsoft's financial advantage to hold
- their forums on Compu$erve. Think of the $$$$ that Compu$erve is making from
- the participation of these two computer giants in their network. This is
- a marketing coup of the highest order!
-
- As part of the IBM DAP acceptance letter, a Compu$erve introductory brochure
- was included, and all DAP forums are there also... My guess is that
- some of the $$$$ paid to Compu$erve is making its way to these two hosts...
- I'm not saying this is wrong.. since both IBM and Microsoft should be
- compensated for their support, but I, for one, would like to hear them
- be up-front and explain WHY they decided to go this route. I liken this to
- honorarium fees paid to speakers.. Let's face it, the vendors provide much of
- the value of those forums.
-
- Personally, however, I see no reason why I should support both the
- vendors, AND Compu$erve.. So, I will live without direct support from
- them, and probably learn just as much here as I would in a forum on
- Compu$erve... There is a GREAT bunch of people here, and please, Tim Sipples,
- don't leave us!
-
- Somehow, I think that any major problem first reported here, or solution
- first appearing here, will make it's way "magicly" to the OS/2 developers/
- support personnel! And, we do get to hear about most of the solutions
- coming out of IBM here too...
