- }Humor us. Try replacing your RAM with a set from a different system,
- }preferably one known to run OS/2 with no problems.
-
- }Al is not the only one who has seen TRAP 0002s be memory problems. That goes
- }for everyone here, including IBM. OS/2 is known to be a torture test for
- }memory. Other programs, including what were thought to be heavy-duty
- }diagnostics, have been known to run properly on systems where OS/2 had TRAP
- }0002s which were cured by replacing RAM.
-
- Does anybody know what it is that makes OS/2 "a torture test" for memory?
- I know about fancy pattern tests and the like for memory, I used to write
- things like that, but not lately. I don't have any kind of diagnostic
- other than what's in the ROM on my Gateway 2000 and that always passes.
- I also know that multitasking can challenge what seemed to be a solid
- memory system under MSDOS, but I've run Unix on this system without
- memory traps (Windows, too, but maybe that doesn't count :-)).
-
- Anyway, I experienced occasional trap 2's (usually with Telix), but my
- system has C&T chipset, so one day I was poking around the XCMOS settings
- and changed the memory interleave from 2-way to 4-way. Trap 2 has now
- stopped (knock on wood).
