- There is virtually no company today that is not effected by the global
- recession. Mr. Akers, at a conference, pointed this out among other things.
- The main area where IBM is cutting down is the mainframe market. Many
- of the 25,000 jobs lost will be in this area. There is currently no evidence
- that OS/2 will be effected. According to local (Toronto) reports, the
- Toronto Labs (Software Development and such) are doing well. IBM will
- restructure completely so it can be more responsive to customer needs.
- The areas that it will concentrate on are the Service and Software sector.
- Service and Software grew over the last few years.
