- I can't figure out what OS2 2.0 is doing with all their different
- cache commands. I know what a software disk cache is, about
- write-back vs write through caching, disk drives, stream buffers,
- and all the technical stuff (its my field of study), but I can't
- figure out what the following commands are doing. One can:
-
- 1. Change the cache parameters from the os2 command line with
- the CACHE command.
-
- 2. Set the HPFS cache parameters in the IFS command line of config.sys
-
- 3. Add a diskcache command to the config.sys command line.
-
- I've been able to determine that there are two caches established
- but nowhere does the online help explain why there are two caches
- for one physical drive and what does the two caches do. Secondly,
- there is no explanation of which of these two caches is modified
- using the os2 command line, how to choose the optimum paramiters, etc.
-
- Would someone out there be able to explain this and suggest a caching
- arrangement (settings) for a 486-66 system with the following stats
-
- 1. 12MB of memory
-
- 2. running a 200MB HPFS and a 40MB FAT partition on a separate logical
- drive within a single physical drive.
-
- 3. Running DR-DOS 6.0 as an alternate OS under Boot Manager control.
-
-
- Thanks in advance.
