- Dear All,
-
- I was adding a third hard drive to my sytem today and ran into a strange
- quirk/problem. I'm using the Adaptec 1542B with the Service Pack drivers.
- I have a 630 MB primary drive (C:, D:, E:) and a 639 MB secondary drive
- (F:, G:, both FAT). I was adding a 1 gig drive (1012 MB) and I WANTED
- to add it as the SECOND drive and move the old second drive to the
- third drive. Before I go any further, the SCSI termination is correct.
-
- So, I set the new drive to SCSI ID 1 and the OLD secondary drive to SCSI
- ID 3. (I have a tape drive at 2 curently) I booted under dos to
- check the low-level formatting, etc. No problem. Then, I booted
- under OS/2 to partition and high-level format the drive. OK, no
- hitches yet, but the 3rd drive doesn't show up on the FDISK menu.
- Hmmm...I thought it still should have...So, I partition the
- new drive into 2 extended partitions (400MB, 600MB) and reboot.
- Then, I formatted the first one as FAT and the second as HPFS.
- I still don't "see" the third drive under OS/2. I reboot. Now I
- have all partitions formatted and ready to run, but still no third
- drive (or, of course, the partitions on it). Hmmm...what's wrong here.
- I checked the drivers and IBMINT13.I13 is REMmed out and the AHA154X.ADD
- is in...
-
- So, I booted under dos, with Adaptec's ASPIDISK.SYS loaded and driving the
- third drive (old second...). No problem, I see both partitions on the
- third drive and I see the FAT partition on the new drive. Hmmm...DOS sees
- it, but OS/2 doesn't. Why?
-
- Just to see what happens, I put the old secondary drive back to SCSI ID 1
- and moved the NEW drive to ID 3. I startup and now all drives/partitions
- are PROPERLY shown and available. I switch them back and no go. Switch
- back again, all there. What's going on here? I'm surprised I can't
- even see the third drive in FDISK (or FDISKPM).
-
- Does anybody out there have any ideas? Could it be because I used OS/2
- EXTENDED partitions on the BIG drive? It maps to less than 1024 cylinders,
- so that shouldn't be the problem...besides, DOS saw it?
-
- Jeff
-
- P.S. No drooling over the drive space, please. I know a lot of people
- who wish they had my problem...BUT it's all for work. Most of it goes
- to building CDROM mastering tapes...
