  12.     I had it all planned to write this wonderful note about what
  13.     you need to do to prepare for a HD disaster, however, it's not
  14.     going to happen this time.

  16.     My roommate claimed to have properly shut down the computer
  17.     properly last night.  He booted it this morning and said that
  18.     he got flashes of a white background, and then nothing.  (A
  19.     few menus would pop up, but without a shutdown option.)

  21.     After attempting to run a chkdsk on the system, I still got a
  22.     "sector not found" error (previously seen when the config.sys
  23.     was being read upon boot up).

  25.     I reformatted the drive (FAT) and then restored a backup.  I
  26.     reboot to a black desktop and icons in disarray.  No biggie, I at
  27.     least had my system back.  WRONG!  The WPS kept
  28.     "rebooting" and there was no shutdown option.

  30.     What was wrong with my system?  Did some EA's not backup
  31.     properly?  Was there a crucial open file that was not
  32.     backed up?

  34.     I did try it again, remembering to restore "os2ini.sys" and
  35.     "os2.sys" that are archived each time OS/2 boots.  However, it
  36.     was worse than the first time.
