- I had it all planned to write this wonderful note about what
- you need to do to prepare for a HD disaster, however, it's not
- going to happen this time.
-
- My roommate claimed to have properly shut down the computer
- properly last night. He booted it this morning and said that
- he got flashes of a white background, and then nothing. (A
- few menus would pop up, but without a shutdown option.)
-
- After attempting to run a chkdsk on the system, I still got a
- "sector not found" error (previously seen when the config.sys
- was being read upon boot up).
-
- I reformatted the drive (FAT) and then restored a backup. I
- reboot to a black desktop and icons in disarray. No biggie, I at
- least had my system back. WRONG! The WPS kept
- "rebooting" and there was no shutdown option.
-
- What was wrong with my system? Did some EA's not backup
- properly? Was there a crucial open file that was not
- backed up?
-
- I did try it again, remembering to restore "os2ini.sys" and
- "os2.sys" that are archived each time OS/2 boots. However, it
- was worse than the first time.
