- The article I read in this mornings LA Times indicated that the 25,000 will be
- the first time IBM has ever laid anyone off. They have reduced their work
- force quite a bit recently but it was all through attrition, early retirement,
- etc.

- As far as how IBM is doing in the OS/2 and PC arena, the article went on to
- state that the main focus for the layoff is the large systems area, since their
- mainframes haven't been doing well in the current economy. Their PC business
- is quite strong however and IBM is doing quite well in that market.
