- I have two machines upon which I have attempted to install OS/2 2.0.
- Neither installation has been successful. I would be VERY GRATEFUL for
- any help, advice, etc. on either problem....
-
-
- SYSTEM #1 - DISK READ ERROR
- 1. I went through the entire OS/2 installation process with no errors
- but when I rebooted at the end, I got the first OS/2 logo screen, and then
- the system hung on a disk read, and after a couple of minutes, the
- screen cleared, and the message appears:
-
- A disk read error occurred.
- Insert a system diskette and restart the system.
-
- As far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the disk. The system runs
- DOS quite well. Hardware diagnostics do not indicate any problems.
-
- Hardware: HP Vectra 486/33T with SCSI hard drive, HP SCSI adapter (OEM of
- Adaptek 1740), HP SVGA adapter (OEM of Video 7/Headlands),
- 8 MB RAM.
-
-
- SYSTEM #2 - CORRUPTED FILES
- 2. Again, the installation process appeared to be successful, and the system
- starts properly. However, randomly, but very frequently, files on the system
- will become corrupted in a very interesting way -- their contents will be
- rearranged. The size of the file does not change, and any given file is
- always corrupted in the same way. I have most often seen
- this happen when attempting to compile using the PVCS 5.0 tools ('build',
- 'get', etc.). However, it does also seem to happen at other times, so I
- don't think it is a PVCS problem..
- There is no indication that this is happened until you try to do something
- useful with the file (like compile it!).
-
- Hardware: HP Vectra 486/25 with SCSI hard drive, HP SCSI adapter (OEM of
- Adaptek 1740), HP SVGA adapter (OEM of Video 7/Headlands),
- 16 MB RAM.
-
- Please Help if you can...I am at my wit's end with these problems...I am
- supposed to be doing work, and instead I have spent the last month installing
- OS/2, and installing OS/2, and installing OS/2.....
