- I've been happily using 2.0 GA since April without any serious
- problems, but about a week ago I had a crash after which the WPS
- wouldn't restart and restoring or rebuilding my .INI files and
- CONFIG.SYS didn't help. So I tried to reinstall - and have been
- trying ever since. I've tried installing to FAT & HPFS partitions,
- with and without boot manager, removed all expansion cards except
- video and IDE cards, enabled and disabled auto-detect on the video
- card; even turning round three times and spitting didn't help.
- What bothers me (amongst other things) is that the install problems
- aren't consistent. Sometimes it will seem to install correctly,
- but when rebuilding the desktop it will only create the Templates
- and OS/2 System icons - both of which are usually (but not always)
- empty. Sometimes it will stop with a completely white screen.
- Sometimes it will die earlier with COUNTRY.SYS errors. One time
- I got endless SYS3171 error windows whilst it was trying to build the
- desktop. I've read through the FAQ and other useful documents from
- the ftp site and tried assorted fixes, whether they seemed relevent
- or not. I've tried using drivers off the CSD and others that are
- ftp-able. Can somebody point the finger and laugh at me for missing
- something exceedingly obvious? I'd really appreciate it.
- The hard disk seems to be fine - I've run assorted diagnostics with
- no errors and DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1 [sigh] are running from there
- quite contentedly in OS/2's place. Maybe memory is a problem, but
- I've never had any TRAPs which I believe are the common sign of memory
- trouble.
- Many thanks for any suggestions you can make.

- (having the SCSI card removed makes no difference)
