- Hi folks,
- I'm sure that many of you have had the unfortunate experience
- of having the WPS freeze, with the mouse pointer, background downloads,
- and the clock running in the background, but a dead keyboard and
- mouse buttons. Crtl-Esc? HA!! No effect, or worse, the dialog box to kill
- the offending app, which just won't die.
-
- The only recourse, if you're lucky, is the three fingered salute,
- but usually it's red button or Ctrl-Alt-NumLock time.
-
- I have had very few problems since I stopped running a seamless Winos2
- session constantly, but I did have a freeze happen the other day-I made
- the mistake of opening the folder I had just unzipped the icon file from
- Hobbes into (why _1300_ in one file!;-)).needless to say, crash & burn...
-
- EXCEPT
- I happened to have PSPM running, to try it out, and was able to get to
- it before things hung completely, and killed pmshell. It came back up in
- usable condition, albeit slowly, but I was able to get to any open apps,
- and exit them normally, thus saving my data.
-
- Since this scenario will not work if the keyboard locks up,
- is there a utility or driver that will recycle the WPS on demand? I've
- never had Ctrl-Alt-Numlock fail to work properly (If you can call that a
- solution!!), so some sort of driver should be possible to permit the WPS
- to be killed via the keyboard, even if it is "locked up".
-
- Anyone have a solution?
-
- Thanx in advance!

- PS
- This is one I actually did get around to reporting to tech-support before the
- embargo, but they had no solution.
