- Here's an update to my previous floppy problem...
-
- As the original story went, I could not read disks under my DOS
- 5.0 partition (general failure reading drive A:, my 3.5" 1.44MB
- drive). If I had any disk that was formatted under OS/2 2.0
- (+SP and 32GRE) or DOS (MSDOS 5.0), it could not be read under
- my DOS 5.0 partition (OS/2 Dos 5.0 session worked fine and read
- it though). However, disks formatted under the DOS partition
- could be read by OS/2 and disks formatted by OS/2 could be read
- by OS/2, as well. Disks simply could not be read by the DOS 5.0
- partition (either formatted by OS/2 or DOS).
-
- Now, the update. . .
-
- A new discovery has since been made. Disks are still readable
- and writeable under OS/2 (no problems detected so far), as
- always, but they can be made readable under the DOS 5.0
- partition if the write protect tab is set (so they are write
- protected.) So everytime I need to read a disk, I have to set
- the write protect tab and the disk is readable under the DOS
- partition. If I don't, the disk is unreadable and the disk is
- then corrupted so nothing else can read it, either.
-
- I can also read a disk once with the write protect tab, take off
- write protect and try and do a DIR and it is unreadable.
- Putting the tab back on still sends a general failure.
-
- I have also tried to redo the system on my C: (DOS) partition by
- formatting a floppy with the system (format /s) and copying the
- SYS.COM to it, setting the write protect tab (so it can be
- read!!!) and then booting from it and doing a SYS C: from drive
- A:. So, I have a clean system on there but it still does it!
- ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!
-
- IMHO, this is really weird! If anybody could provide any clue,
- lead or path to follow to try to help resolve this problem, I
- would really appreciate it. Thanks!
