- I'd noticed that during the past week I'd had a few TRAP 000e's occur, and
- it had me worried, even though Checkit said my memory was all okay (if I
- remember right, a trap 000e is memory related...). Still, I continued working
- with occasional "the system is stopped" messages happening every once in a
- while, hoping it would disappear as other minor problems have in the past.
-
- This one didn't.
-
- Early Sunday morning, I got another TRAP 000e, and it was the big one,
- because now the system wouldn't even boot up completely, trapping before
- startup.cmd was able to finish starting up all my TCP/IP drivers.
-
- I thought perhaps chkdsk could shed some light on the problem, and hopefully
- fix the difficulty, and it found two errors. It reported 2 problems on my
- OS/2 boot partition, formatted HPFS, where:
-
- a minor file system error was corrected...
- chkdsk corrected a file allocation error in /delete/control.del.
- a minor file system error was corrected...
- chkdsk corrected a file allocation error in /tcpip/etc/sendmail.err.
-
- I've remember being told it was a good idea to run chkdsk more than once,
- so I ran chkdsk d: /f3 again, and it came up with exactly the same errors.
- I thought this odd, so I ran chkdsk a third time.
-
- The errors came up again.
-
- I don't know what to think. I've since deleted the sendmail.err file, but the
- control.del error still comes up, as does the file system error.
- I thought the error might lie with one of the TCP/IP drivers or something else
- loaded up within my startup.cmd, so I attempted a restart, but after I killed
- startup.cmd, and the desktop came up, I got another trap 000e.
-
- I'm really at a loss for what to do now. It would seem rather rash to just re-
- install to see if that fixes the problem, but I really can't think of anything
- I might have just changed that would have induced such errors. The SoundBlaster
- Pro I installed Friday isn't the source of the problems, the trap 000e's were
- appearing before that was purchased. I put in a new Maxtor 7213a in mid-
- November, but problems didn't begin to crop up until a while after, and the
- errors chkdsk is reporting is on my first drive, a Maxtor 7120a.
- I'm running 1024x768x256 on a Diamond Speedstar Plus, and OS/2 is on a
- Blue Dolphin 386/40 with 20MB RAM, Cyrix math coprocessor, Vega motherboard,
- AMI BIOS (5/5/91), with an IBM 8-bit 4MBaud token-ring network board.
-
- I have the trap 000e code dump if it would prove useful.
- Also, the trap 000e message wasn't the only "the system is stopped" message
- I'd received. The other of the two I'd seen was a "the system detected an
- internal processing error at location" listing some address, plus some other
- numbers and letters, plus "CPS, Extent not found.", plus revision numbers and
- such.
-
- Any suggestions as to how to deal with this will be greatly appreciated.
