- For what's its worth, here's my .25 worth. A couple of weeks ago, I
- picked (very cheaply) a Diamond Stealth VRAM Hicolor card and a monitor.
- Since this was the first color combination I had since purchasing OS/2
- GA in May, I thought I'd give it a shot. Everything installed (I
- actually ended up installing from scratch 5 times in 7 days) OK, and
- then I went in search of some svga drivers for my Stealth VRAM.
-
- While perusing hobbes (ftp-os2.nmsu.edu) in /pub/os2/2.0/drivers I came
- across a file called proii8.zip that mentioned something about Tseng
- 4000 support. So I downloaded it, read the docs as much as possible,
- did the installing specified, rebooted, and it worked! My desktop came
- up in svga mode of 1024x768x256. It appears to me to be very fine.
-
- Using a dos program called svga110 under dos, I am able to view gifs in
- 1024x768x256 mode. Another gif dos viewer also (vpic, I think) works
- very well.
-
- It seems to work fine for me, but I have a few questions. When I open
- an OS/2 window, I only fills about a quarter of the screen. I am not
- able to grab the corner and extend it any more. Shouldn't I be able to
- make this window bigger. Dos and OS2 full screens open in standard text
- mode of 80x25, but I have seen a dos full screen in a graphics mode when
- a gif viewer program bombed and left me in hi-resolution mode, even
- though scrolling was very slow.
-
- Another thing, the icons appear very tiny. I have found out how to get
- the icon editor to edit in 64x64 mode (256 colors) but haven't figured
- out how to make these icons appear on the desktop, or how to attach them
- to any program, or even see them once I supposedly have saved them. Any
- one figure this out yet?
-
- As I said, my .25 worth.
