- I also talked with a WP service person recently. He told me they
- wordperfect 6.0 was being completely rewritten in c so that the
- package could be easily ported between platforms. The DOS, Windows
- and OS2 versions will all have the same core code. At the time of the
- conversation (late October) the person I talked to said that the OS/2
- version should be going into beta in December.
-
- I have also been looking for a good symbolic math package for OS/2. A
- person at Wolfram Research (Mathematica) told me that they were
- shooting for a 2nd or 3rd quarter 93 release of Mathematica for OS/2. Of
- course this does not help me now since Mathematica for Windows does
- not currently run under OS/2. I was told by a sales person at
- Waterloo software (Maple V) that Maple V for windows released this
- week will run under OS/2. I was also told that Waterloo has made a
- firm committment to a native OS/2 version of Maple V. However, no
- projected date for this was given.
-
- I am using the strategy of buying windows apps that run under OS/2
- from companies that have firmly committed to writing native OS/2
- versions. It seems that now that OS/2 has gained a firm toehold in
- the market that 93 will see an explosion of native applications for OS/2.
