- The problem is the IRQ assignment of DOS. Windows does not allow
- useage of two COM ports at the same IRQ, especially if the associated
- software is interrupt-driven (mouse, telecommunication)

- COM1 + COM3 : IRQ 4
- COM2 + COM4 : IRQ 3

- Re-assignment of your Modem to COM2 and the external serial
- to COM3 should help.
